Protection of Copyright in Libraries of Universities in Ukraine

Abstract: The paper analyzes the work of libraries of five Ukraine’s universities in the context of academic integrity and copyright policy. The universities libraries play an important role in the educational process and contribute to the content of scientific work. The article analyzes two aspects of work in this area: informing and organizational promotion of academic integrity; internal library policy aimed at filling the collections and providing users with access to resources, taking into account the need for copyright protection. Universities libraries serve as a centers of communication between students, researchers and staff. To this end, libraries organize events for various kinds of users and hold lectures on academic integrity. To study this issue, a sample of universities libraries was formed: H. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library of the National University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, M. Maksymovych Scientific Library of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Scientific Library of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Scientific Library of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Scientific Library of the I. Mechnikov National University of Odesa, and the Library of Sumy State University. The choice of these libraries was based, on the one hand, on their information activity; on the other hand, on the principle of representativeness, in our case, regional representation. The analysis made it possible to highlight the important components of these areas of work and the opportunities provided for users in the process of obtaining the necessary materials. The analyzed aspects make it possible to study the peculiarities of the library policy on copyright preservation and informing users about it.
