The Role of Libraries in Covering Ecocide in Ukraine Caused by Russian AggressionAbstract: The article presents the study of the role of libraries in highlighting the problem of ecocide in Ukraine, caused by the Russian military invasion. The source base of the research is the materials of library websites, libraryblogs, pages in social networks, where information about ecocide in Ukraine accumulates. It has been proven that Russian aggression has signs of military ecocide. The functions of libraries are defined, and the directions and forms of their work in the system of activities of state bodies and institutions of civil society aimed at combating military ecocide, are analyzed. It was noted that libraries are actively involved in documenting environmental crimes, monitoring the state of the environment, public awareness of the extent of damage, involvement of the international community in proving the fact of ecocide, solving problems of future restoration of nature, etc. It was emphasized that in the wartime, libraries diversify their activitiesas centers for public initiatives and environmental information aimed at combating Russia’s ecocidal policy: they implement projects to provide operational bibliographic information on ecocidal issues, provide access to state and public electronic resources that record crimes against the environment, create systematized indexes and collections of scientific and popular scientific publications on environmental problems in wartime, etc. It was determined that the work of environmental information centers at libraries and further development of the virtual library space is a promising area of activity of libraries in the coverage of military ecocide. A general conclusion is made about the integration of libraries in the functioning of the information society, their significant role in the production, processing, storage, transmission of environmental information and the creation of an information and communication base for educational, cultural, scientific, socio-economic projects in ecological direction.
