Current issues of creating digital collections of historical and cultural heritage of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine in the context of digital transformation of the humanitarian industry

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to reveal the main directions of digital transformation of historical and cultural manuscript and documentary heritage and the organization of work with digital collections in the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, identify the main problems related to the creation of digital collections of historical and cultural manuscript and documentary heritage and propose ways to solve them, aswell as determine the possibilities of spreading positive experience regarding digital transformation to other institutions of the humanitarian sector. The methodology of the article was based on the application of general scientific and special methods of scientific research. Scientific novelty. A general plan of organizational measures for the digital transformation of institutions that preserve historical and cultural heritage in the form of a scheme is proposed. Conclusions. The results of the study prove that the development of scientific, methodological and technological principles for creating digital collections of historical and cultural heritage and digital transformation is becoming one of the current tasks of digital humanities. It should be based on the developed strategy of digital transformation, should be based on a systematic approach to organizing the digital transformation of the activities of institutions in various interrelated areas; on the implementation of new research methods aimed at developing the structure and content of metadata used in automated systems, data formats for metadata exchange for creating global automated systems, the availability of digital content in the form of electronic information resources that meet the technological level of provision of the modern information society, and other issues of modernization of the existing system.
