Features of the United Nations documents classification

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to investigate the peculiarities of the classification of documents of the United Nations (UN), to analyze the activities of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library in the development of scientific and methodological recommendations for UN depository libraries, to reveal the experience of V. I. Vernadskyі National Library of Ukraine in analytical and synthetic processing of UN documents. The research methodology is based on systemic and structural approaches, scientific objectivity, methods of logical, structural and functional analysis. Scientific novelty. The peculiarities of the classification of UN documents were highlighted for the scientific and educational needs in Ukraine, the experience of analytical and synthetic processing of UN documents in V. I. Vernadskyі National Library of Ukraine was revealed, the impact on the availability of international information resources in the context of the library depository was characterized. Conclusions. Classification of UN documents is a key element in ensuring effective access to international resources. The Dag Hammarskjöld Library is a liaison and guideline developer for depository libraries around the world. The importance of Dag Hammarskjöld Library in the development of guidance documents, curricula and information retrieval methods is critical to the support of the global network of UN libraries. Professional development of library staff is an important condition for the effective use of UN document classification system.
