Influence of the mass Media on the Population of Temporarily Occupied Territories

Abstract: The article examines the influence of the mass media on the population of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, analyzing the mechanisms and consequences of the information policy implemented by the Russian Federation. In terms of occupation, the information space becomes a key tool for the implementation of propaganda and disinformation campaigns, which significantly influence public opinion and behavioral patterns of the local population. The study is based on the analysis of the content of the mass media in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Tight control over the media, propaganda activities, manipulation and the creation of fake news arekey aspects of media activity in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. It was revealed that media content is actively used to legitimize the occupation regimes, discredit the Ukrainian authorities and create a negative attitude towards the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. The article also considers methods of countering the negative impact of propaganda, among which attention is paid to the development of critical thinking, increasing the level of population media literacy, and creating alternative sources of information for residents of the occupied territories. The study emphasizes the importance of a deep understanding of the mechanisms of mass media influence on the formation of public opinion during occupation. This knowledge is necessary for the development of effective strategies for the reintegration of temporarily occupied territories and their population into the united information space of Ukraine, as well as for ensuring stability and social cohesion in the post-conflict period.
