Soviet Periodicals of the late 1960s and 1970s about the “Hostile” Activity of Ukrainian Scientific Emigration Centers

Abstract: The purpose of the article is to investigate researches on the scientific activity of Ukrainian foreign institutions, published in the scientific and abstract bulletin Foreign publications about Ukraine in the late 1960s and 1970s. The studyis grounded on such research methods as analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction; historical and comparative method – to compare the characteristics made by diaspora and Soviet scholars, to the activities of emigration scientific institutions and organizations; historiographical analysis – to study articles in the newsletter. The mentioned periodical was a printed organ of the department of foreign historiography of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, whose tasks were the preparation of counter-propaganda articles aimed at criticizing the Western humanities system "hostile" to the Soviet Union, analytical reviews of scientists of the Ukrainian diaspora of various spheres of life in the Ukrainian SSR and the USSR, as well as the irvision of Ukrainian history and the Ukrainian question in the world. The publications in it were based on the materials of the collections of the special storage department of the Central Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. The bulletin itself was issued for official use. The scientific novelty of this work lies in the absence of historiographical studies on counter propaganda publications on the pages of the journal of the department of foreign historiography. Conclusions. The article analyzes the works of Soviet scholars who studied the activities of foreign centers for Ukrainian studies. Among themthere are publications by R. G. Symonenko, M. I. Pavlenko, M. M. Varvartsev, L. A. Demydenko, G. I. Ignatchenko, M. M. Solomatin, Yu. M. Hamretsky, and M. F. Kotlyar. Attention is also paid to notes on the latest news among diaspora researchers. Despite the counter-propaganda direction of the bulletin and the “struggle against enemy ideology” from the standpoint of Marxism-Leninism, a number of its articles have informative value.
