International Scientific Cooperation between the Corresponding Member of Academy of Sciences of UkrSSR Ye. P. Kirilyuk, Czech, and Slovak Scholars in the Field of Shevchenko Studies in the 1950s.

Abstract: A comprehensive study of documents of various types, namely, scientific and organizational sources in the Archival Collection of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the field of international relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, was carried out. Epistolary sources of a personalized nature, which are stored in funds №. 73 “Ye. P. Kyrilyuk” of the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, and which have not yet been covered by research, allowed to reconstruct the international scientific contacts of the Corresponding Member Ye. P. Kyryliuk with the Czech and Slovak scholars M. Nervliy, M. Molnar and O. Zylinskyin the field of Shevchenko studies in the 1950’s. Information on Ye. P. Kyryliuk’s research activity, on the ideas, information and publications exchange between scholars related to various projects, translations of T. Shevchenko’s works, discussion of issues related to organization of Ukrainian studies and participation in international events, is presented. Information about scholars of the Czechoslovak Republic and about the degree of their cooperation among themselves, is highlighted. It was determined that their correspondence with Ye. P. Kyryliuk contributed to the research of diaspora scholars who focused on the analysis of T. Shevchenko’s literary work, their interpretation, as wellas on explorations of modern literature and reviewing the works of Ukrainian Shevchenko’s experts. Searches for editions of T. Shevchenko’s works and their translations in libraries’ book collections, conducted by Czech and Slovakscholars, recording of all works published abroad of Ukraine, and mentionsin the press, helped to create bibliographies of such editions both in Czechoslovak Republic and in Ukraine. It helped to strengthen links between foreign Ukrainian communities and the public of these countries, thanks to which the memory on historical figures of Ukraine was preserved and information about the spiritual values of the Ukrainian people was disseminated.
