Sociocultural Practices of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in the Development of Information and Communication Space

Abstract: The article attempts to determine the formation of a system of socio-cultural practices aimed at popularization of historical and cultural collections of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in the modern information and communication space, to identify the main trends of these practices, and to examine their reflections in the digital world. V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine conducts significant socio-cultural work using and presenting unique multi-type and polythematic historical and cultural collections of the largest scientific library in Ukraine as an object of national cultural heritage. The specificity of the historical and cultural heritage of the 11 th-21 st centuriesas a retrospective and modern cultural potential from all spheres of the historical development of Ukraine is determined by the existence in a single space of scientific and cultural potential, as well as the further development of the cultural memory of the state. The article considers the system of socio-cultural practices of scientific national libraries: research and informational activities; carrying out exhibitions and presentations; cultural and educational activities; scientific and educational work; giving library tours; implementation of the socio-cultural communication function of libraries as general cultural national centers. Specific forms and modifications depend on general information about library collection as an object of culture to fulfill special requests from various institutions, public organizations and individual social groups of the population, regarding the preparation of information of a more in-depth nature, for the satisfaction of personal interests or use in education and work. The innovative nature of the emergence and development of complex socio-cultural, scientific, and informational events, is emphasized. It is emphasized that it is thanks to socio-cultural activities that the library acts as a cultural and civilizational phenomenon, possessing universal competence in relation to all achievements of culture and civilization.
