Books and Children: IBBY’s Action in Crisis SituationsAbstract: The article describes the main activities of the International Board on Booksfor Young People (IBBY), which represents the interests of children and children’s literature around the world. The author examines the main areas of IBBY’s work aimed at promoting international understanding through children’s books and ensuring children’s access to quality literature. Particular attention is paid to highlighting projects and initiatives successfully implemented with the financial support of the IBBY Children in Crisis Foundation by national IBBY sections in various countries that have faced military conflicts, political tensions, and humanitarian disasters. It is noted that in difficult life circumstances, books are of fundamental need because they provide effective psychological assistance to children, promote their development and education. The article highlights the importance of books not only as a source of information and entertainment, but also as a tool for healing, consolation and restoration in the most difficult times. The article considers issues of IBBY cooperation with other international organizations, national associations in the field of children’s rights protection and assistance in crisis situations, and foreign governments. It is noted that IBBY’s activities make an important contribution to protecting children’s rights and ensuring their well-being throughout the world, especially in crisis situations. IBBY makes a significant contribution to overcoming the consequences of wars, natural disasters and other humanitarian catastrophes, providing children not only with books, but also with psychological support, recovering them for normal life. The articleis based on the results of the study Libraries in the Post-War Society: Foreign Experience of Renewal, conducted in 2023 by the Yaroslav Mudryi National Library of Ukraine.
