Abstract: The features of development of social media in the system of modern information and library environment are investigated in the article. The theoretical and practical aspects of activity of libraries in the conditions of prompt development of electronic information technologies, including in a context of development of social media are elucidated. At present the conceptual apparatus of social media in the system of social library communications is analyzed. On the basis of the terminological analysis concepts are considered: social media, technologies 2.0, Library 2.0, social network, Internet service, community.
