Gifts as acquisition source of the Middle East libraries

Abstract: Gifts as acquisition source of the Middle East libraries have been analyzed and reviewed in this article. Namely, such aspects as the historical background of the gift subsystem development, terminology, Islamic gift traditions, theoretical studies of library, book and information science arabic researchers have been taken up. Shariah, Hakikat and Kanun influence on Islamic gift tradition, that in the context of library science was transformed into the gift subsystem of arabic libraries, is being reviewed. In the context of history the evolution of this subsystem is being analyzed. We draw our attention to the library top management activities concerning encouragement of donators and strengthening of gifts receiving process. The standards of the gifts receiving depend on the conditions of purchase and book exchange. Particularly, gifts selection and its criteria may be significantly changed. That if the purchase and the exchange receipts is decreasing, the figure of the gifts receipt will increase and vice versa. As a whole, the arabic library researchers come to the conclusion that gifts decrease the budget pressures, develop and enrich collections, particularly with the materials which are difficult to receive by purchasing (subscriptions), supply readers with the other ideas, cultures, contribute to establishing communication, including international contacts.
