Voskoboinikova-Huzeva Olena New Approaches to Research Activity in Methodology of Library ScienceAbstract: The article reveals the peculiarities of application of modern methodological approaches to the study of a library as a social institution. Taking into account the achievements of the national school of Library Science (monographs and doctoral research works by Davydova I. O., Horovyi V. M., Hranchak T. Yu., Shemaieva H. V., Solianyk A. A., Lobuzina K. V. et al.) the author emphasizes that plurality of methodological approaches must be considered from the standpoint of post-new classical rationality, depending on the modern state of development of library science when libraries as open systems are able to self-developing. Thus, the article pays particular attention to the institutional, modernization, social and synergetic approaches in study of the current stage of development of library and information field. From the standpoint of the institutional approach the library as a social institution is regarded as a natural social system, which consists of interconnected and interdependent functionally specialized elements (library practice, education, science, communication, self-organization, management, ethics and law). That is the reason for scientists to build its structural and functional model. From the standpoint of social synergetic library is a complex system that is capable of self-development and self-organization, and is understood as a complex social institution that has a non-linear development as intensive (under the influence of social environment, results of related sciences and disciplines) and extensive (under the influence of internal forces and phenomena). Modernization approach is based on understanding of the need for structural, technological and institutional changes in the national economy, politics, social and humanitarian field, as well as in library and information activities aimed at improving the level of their competitiveness.
