Trends in Libraries Social and Communicative Activity in Conditions of the Information Society

Abstract: In this article, an attempt is made, basing on publications of modern Ukrainian researchers, in which the library activity is viewed from the standpoint of the social and communication theory, to trace the general trends characterizing its transformation at the present stage of the information society formation, due to scaling up of information dissemination and the expansion of the possibilities for the formation and automatic processing of information flows. In particular, it deals with the tendency of activating innovative processes in library activities, reorienting it to a specific user or group of users, increasing access to information and enriching the content of the social and communicative activities of libraries through the use of the Internet and the latest information and communication technologies.
