Abstract: Ukraine 1933 in the works of Artur Kustler and Daniel Kish The main question in this research is may we know something about Holodomor in the short story about Kyiv in 1933 «The Mechanical Lions» by Serbian writer Danilo Kiš and if so which features show it and why is it written so covertly about. It was drawn the parallels between this short sto ry and «Autobiography» by British writer Arthur Koestler as one of the factographic and philosophical sources for creation the collection «The Tomb for Boris Davidović» by Danilo Kiš. The attention is given for the author’s reception of Ukraine in the situation of Russian domination. Also the problem of chronological mistake in quasi-documentary story by Danilo Kiš is analyzed. The character of Kyiv in «The Mechanical Lions» is researched.
