Typological Classification of Social Media as an Object of Libraries ’activity

Abstract: The typological classification of social media, which is the object of library activities, is carried out and the prospects for the development of library representation in the interactive media environment are determined. The typological classification showed the presence of different types of mass media, where the presence of libraries is noted: by content – focused on the presentation of multi-format content (text messages, photos, video and audio documents) and mono-format content (video, photo content, slide shows); according to the communication strategy – social media, which provide communication of users; collaborative projects that involve collaboration and interaction with users; recommendation services focused on user’ basic preferences; geosocial systems based on collective cooperation with users; file sharing communities focused on file sharing based on the equality of exchange participants; media hosting, which involves the placement of materials by users. The importance of creating instructions or policies for the use of social media by libraries for the effective use of social media, which may include general recommendations, procedures and responsibilities, content guidelines, protection of confidential information, copyright, has been demonstrated. Based on the study of leading foreign experience, it is determined that an important aspect of the development of library representation is the differentiation of policies in different types of social media.It is determined that based on the formation of the system of libraries presentation in social media, accumulation of unique information in different types of social media – social networks, blogs, collaborative projects, geosocial systems, recommendation services, file sharing communities, media hosting, virtual worlds, system of libraries using of social media is formed – a complex and orderly set of elements (subjects – libraries, users; and objects – a set of online information resources), and the links between them.
