Modern Ukrainian and Polish Language Links

Abstract: The article focuses on the study of Ukrainian-Polish language relations. The basis for the rising of common cultural phenomena and intercultural dialogue is considered. In considering the history of Polish-Ukrainian linguistic-literary relations, four main periods were identified, characterizing both literatures and the role of the use of the Ukrainian language by the writers of the Polish-Ukrainian border in the Polish literary process. In particular: the first period, the earliest one, from the last decades of the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, encompassed the late Polish Renaissance and much of Polish and Ukrainian Baroque. The second is the romantic period, which also absorbs the pre-romantic phase and dates up to about the first half of the nineteenth century. The third period is postRomantic, and it reaches, though at first glance, not surprisingly, the Second World War. The fourth, and the last, is the post-war period.Legal regulation and ensuring the exercise of the right of persons to study in the minority language, as well as the study of history and culture, have been investigated. First of all, it is the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages which recognizes Ukrainian as a minority language in Poland; Act on national and ethnic minorities and on the regional languages, which was adopted in Poland and stipulates that Ukrainians are considered a national minority in Poland. Attention is paid to labor migration of Ukrainians to Poland as a mutual influence of both countries on the use of languages and its use in the Polish information space, etc.It has been determined that Ukrainian-Polish linguistic connections are found in the literary and literary area where their systems interacted, disrupting the level structures of the Old Ukrainian; the choice of language depends on the area of social life: in artistic and non-fiction styles, the choice was voluntary, and in office work it depended on then socio-political conditions, as well as on the spread of Polish influence in live speech.
