Diamara Stepanivna Pshenychnykova – a key figure in the development of the E. O. Paton electric welding institute’s library

Abstract: Diamara Stepanivna Pshenychnykova, as the head of the library of the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute in 1961-2003, played a significant role in the activity and development of the Institute’s library. The objective of the work is to present to the general public the results of introduction of such forms of library and bibliographic work, which have been functioning at the library for more than 60 years and still have not lost their relevance, and to characterize the library and scientific-informational activity of D. S. Pshenychnykova. The scientific novelty of the paper consists in first-time presentation in published sources of expanded information about the library and scientific-informational activity of Diamara S. Pshenychnykova, which outlined the direction of development of the library of the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, starting from 1961. Analysis performed in this work led to the conclusion that the life and work of D. S. Pshenychnykova are of interest both for studies of library science, and for supporting the research performed by the Electric Welding Institute, and for introduction of new methods of informational and library work in the libraries of academic institutions.
