The First World War 1914–1918 in a Memoir Representation

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to analyze memories of the First World War/World War Ievents (1914–1918) in the context of communicative practices that represent a personas a key figure in historical events, of which he/she is a participant and witness, to determine the main forms of representation and publishing projects of memoir narratives about the events of the Great War in the twentieth century. The research methodology is based on the application of discourse analysis (method of text research) andgeneral scientific methods – causal, systematic, historical-comparative, retrospective, historical-typological, etc. The scientific novelty of the study is in considering the communicative potential, forms of representation of memories of the First World War; consideration of a scientific, public initiative and individual initiative on the creation, collection of memoir texts and their implementation in the public and research space. Conclusions. Memories of the war in which Ukraine was involved at the beginning the twentieth century, is examined through the analysis of individual narratives, public, and scientific projects, which demonstrate an understanding of their communicative potential as an important historical and biographical source, an informational resource for social cohesion. It is emphasized that in the time of Digital Humanitarianism (DH), memories of tragic events of the past become available to the general public and work simultaneously as a communication tool for the formation of a national idea, patriotism, and consolidation of modern Ukrainian society around a winning strategy of behavior, taking into account the heavy defeats and losses that Ukraine experienced in the pastand in modern war.
