Library Institutions as an Effective Participant in the Integration of a Gender Approach into Community Life

Abstract: The article presents a study of library activities aimed at ensuring gender equality in modern society, in particular overcoming negative gender stereotypes, digitalinequality. The available means to solve these problems through the use of libraries potential are systematized, in particular in the study of ways to integrate genderas a social construct into national legislation and legal guarantees to combat gender discrimination.The participation of libraries in educational activities on vocational guidance and professional adaptation of young people, and promoting adult education, has been studied. Attention is drawn to the positive experience of libraries in providing citizens with opportunities for professional retraining and distance learning courses with a certificate.The experience of library institutions in eliminating gender barriers in various spheres of public life, in particular, in the field of ICT, has been studied. Particular attention is paid to the work of libraries in the framework of the UN project Womenin Ukraine "Promoting Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women in the framework of decentralization reform in Ukraine". Special attention is paid to the work of libraries in helping women from vulnerable groups to overcome the negative economic consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic through the use of digital platforms and tools, including resources of the Action portal. Forms of involvement of Ukrainian and foreign library institutions in the life of their communities are analyzed. Positive experience of libraries’ participation in solving problem situations of communities under the condition of coordination of their activities with other organizations, as well as in social partnership with representatives of government, law enforcement, health care, social services, professional associations, public and volunteer organizations, is considered.The participation of libraries in the integration of gender issues into the educational system, as well as activity of library institutions in covering legal, in particular, gender equality issues, using the case of informational and educational work of librariesin Kirovohrad region, is presented.The changes in library life in time of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2022 are studied.
