Archival Heritage of George Gdalevich Gnesin (to the 90 th anniversary of the Scientist)

Abstract: Georgy Gdalevich Gnesin is an outstanding Ukrainian material scientist who hasmade a great contribution to the development of Ukrainian and world science, creating new non-oxide ceramic materials based on silicon carbide and nitride, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine. The article presents the documents of the personal archival fund of the scientist in the Institute of Archival Studies of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, which allow to expand knowledge about the lifeand career of G. G. Gnesin. Рurpose of the article is to present to the general public the documents of the personal archival fund of the material scientist, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine G. G. Gnesin and to analyze the composition of the personal fund documents of the Ukrainian scientist, to find out their information potential. Methodology based on general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, comparison, descriptive, detailing, generalization) and special-historical (historical-source analysis, biographical). The scientific novelty of the article is in presenting for the first time a wide array of documents of the personal archives of G. G. Gnesin and its introducingin scientific circulation, which allows to reflect the life of the scientist and his activities in the field of materials science. Conclusions. A significant set of documents about the life and work of an outstanding scientist has been deposited in the personal archives of the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine G. G. Gnesin. The scientific works of the scientist, reports on research work, scientific publications in various editions around the world, documents which disclosing his professional activities and cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign materials scientists are of particular value to researchers. The information contained in the documents of the fund significantly expands the knowledge of the scientific biography of G. G. Gnesin, his activities in the field of materials science and in the pedagogical field, specifies his contribution to the development of science.
