Cultural and Creative Heritage of P. Kulish in Institutions of Social Memory

Abstract: The research provides an overview of Kulish studies as a separate branch of humanities which considers the cultural and creative heritage of Panteleimon Kulish in an interdisciplinary scientific field. The works of P. Kulish convincingly prove the originality and uniqueness of the Ukrainian culture in general, and of the religion, history, language and literature of Ukraine in particular. This fact is of dominant interest to modern scholars, since both contemporaries of Kulish and next generations of researchers have previously held only fragmentary studies of Kulish`s works, or examined mostly his personal manifestations. The national idea in the interpretation of P. Kulish is the result of the national consciousness reflection and solves the issue of the nation self-determination and self realization. P. Kulish’s research and creative work still remains an infinite source for study and preservation of the Ukrainian national traditions, assurance of national self-awareness and self-identity sense of the Ukrainian nation, and fulfillment of the nation’s resources with the world cultural achievements despite all the tsarist prohibitions and repressions of the Russian tsarist regime in the 19th century and the Soviet totalitarian regimes in the 20th century. The global social and cultural importance of documented information storage significance has determined the mission assigned to libraries, archives and museums, since the preservation of the historical memory of the nation and all of the humanity depends on the process successful implementation. The libraries, archives and museums perform preservation functions and transmit cultural values from generation to generation, providing a connection between the past, present and future as institutions of social memory. The archives, libraries and museums sources need to be considered as specific information mediums of the social, collective and cultural memory of the Ukrainian people, which contain the historical experience of the nation in their funds.
