Dynamics of Modern Social Media in Ukraine in the Context of Supporting Information Security

Abstract: The article presemts analysis of the concept of information security and the main vectors of its implementation in war time in Ukraine. The key features of society’s media activity, the role and significance of social media as effective guides in the modern information space are determined. On the basis of the obtained data, the dynamics of the most popular social networks are presented from the point of view of the application of effective mechanisms of information warfare. It is emphasized that the modern capabilities of Internet resources have made effective technologies more accessible for the military, which has affected both the methods of conducting military operations and the communication ecosystem of society as a whole. Social media became the main information channel both inside the country and far beyond its borders, which made it possible to globalize the issue of the Ukrainian people’ struggle against the Russian Federation’ military aggression and attract vital partnerships in other countries. It is proved that the growth of user indicators in the space of modern social media is proportional to the aggravation of the military and political situation in the country, the growth of public activism and media activity in the context of the fight against Russian aggression. Thus, understanding how society consumes information is important for effective public communication in crisis times. One of the most powerful trends in the Ukrainian Internet space during the war was the use of social networks not only for communication and entertainment, but also for receiving news. That is why civil society and the research community pay so much attention to the problem of social networks - issues of media involvement and information hygiene to protect against disinformation and other ways of manipulating public opinion, as well as problems of general digital literacy in the context of information security of both an individual and the state in general.
