Multimedia technologies in information and library service of users with visual impairment: research methodology

Abstract: Problem formulation. The disclosure of the moral and intellectual potential of Ukrainian society is facilitated, on the one hand, by democratization and, on the other hand, by the European vector of Ukraine’s development and focus on universal values. The presence of theoretical developments in Ukrainian library science on the peculiarities of servicing users with visual impairments and significant practical experience in this area raises the issue of methodological tools of the study. The purpose of the article is to characterize the methodological tools of research of multimedia technologies in information and library services for visually impaired users. Scientific novelty. Traditional and innovative methodological approaches in modern library science (structural-functional, activity, marketing, technological, institutional, process, synergetic, cognitive, socio-cultural) are revealed, was defined actual methods for modernization of research of multimedia technologies as a component of information-library service for visually impaired in terms of the introduction of modern information and communication technologies and global digitalization of society. Such approaches as system-structural, social, historical, socio-communicative are characterized. Conclusions. The main theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of information and library services for visually impaired users are: system-structural, social, historical, sociocommunicative, activity and process approaches. Modern methodological tools for studying the functioning of libraries for the blind in order to successfully meet their information needs and educational, scientific and cultural needs allows us to study ILS as an open a multilevel subsystem of the library as a space for information, training and meeting places, focused on providing and expanding the range of various information services and services with a comprehensive combination of access to different types and kinds of information.
